Natural Interiors

Special care has been taken to create interiors that are natural, peaceful and harmonise the occupant with the spirit of Clonturkle. The inside of each cabin is not merely the reproduction of a normal home interior. It is a peaceful retreat, a special experience removed from daily routine, where natural colours, shapes, and textures create links to a simpler, earthier existence without sacrificing comfort.

The use of native timbers and their natural living shapes and rich grains remind of the bush.   Rich timber ceilings on the rake of the roof give a sense of spaciousness.   In winter, the cosiness of the cottages is enhanced by the glow of the wood heater and the warm grains of the native cypress floor and ceiling timbers.

Simplicity in the design and arrangement of furniture creates an uncluttered and relaxing living space.   Subdued earthy wood wash colours on the timber walls create a calm interior, while attractive cedar windows and quaint round timber architraves draw the eye out of the room to the rural scenery outside.

Considerable effort has been made to make sure the interior is also healthy. Only 'natural' materials have been used where possible. Native whole timbers have been used instead of manufactured plaster boards or adhesive based particle boards. Organic based timber oils have been used rather than petrochemical based treatments. Native cypress, with its natural termite resistant oils, has been used as the main structural timber to avoid chemically treated cheaper timbers.

The cottages are very warm in winter and cool in summer. Only pure down doonas and wool blankets are used on the beds. Wool based insulation keeps the interior temperature comfortable. All cabins possess slow combution wood heaters, as well as oil filled radiators.

As much as possible, the interior has links to the region. The curtains and kitchen cabinets were made in Bathurst township, inside furniture was made in Rockley village, while the ironbark verandah bush seats and tables were made near Peak Hill. Even the fridges are locally made in the town of Orange.
